This all started by finding a way to survive the off season and it's grown into a monster. Not being able to watch hockey until the season started in October 2010, sent me into withdrawal so I turned to Art for comfort. Let Creativity Reign! I decided to give back in the process, donating drawings to the Mario Lemieux Foundation. My aim with this endeavor now is to donate drawings to more hockey related foundations to help those in need.

4 Days To Go
Just a quick update for you all. Only 4 days to go until we fly out of Australia. I can't believe it's here already. No new drawings yet but I will be working on some over the Christmas break. Thanks to all of you who continue to support me and what I am doing with my art, I appreciate it immensely. I'll post here again when I'm on the other side of the globe!

Drawings For Sale
I have had a few inquiries as to whether my drawings are for sale. Unfortunately the only way to purchase my drawings, is through the online auctions for the Foundations I donate my drawings to. This is because I do not own the copyright on the pictures I draw from, therefore under copyright law I cannot make a profit on the drawings. Also it's not why I draw the Penguins.
With that said, if you cannot possibly live without one of my drawings, I would be more than happy to draw one of your choosing, provided a substantial contribution/donation is made by you, to one of the Foundations I support, they are listed with direct links to the appropriate sites at the right hand side of my blog. If you would like to take me up on this, please email me at the following address for more information:
drawingthepittsburghpenguins@gmail.com
As I have stated in previous posts, I am in the middle of relocating to the USA, and my supplies will be in storage/transit possibly until late January, if it is longer I will buy more. Also art takes time, so please do not expect a drawing to be completed overnight, as once stated,"you can't rush art".

It Is Official
Great news came to us last week. Hubby has the job in Denver Colorado, we are leaving Australia on the 17th of December 2010. We are very excited, and are looking forward to seeing more of the family. As you can well imagine we are frantically sorting out our house ready for the pack out. OMG what a MAMMOTH task that has turned out to be. It's amazing how much you accumulate in 15 years in the one town!
We are heading to Huntsville Alabama for the holiday season to spend it with family and then on to Denver after New Years. Fear not I will still be drawing during that time... like I'd let them pack my pencils and art book! I need something to do. When we are settled I will be working on a collection of drawings for the Mario Lemieux Foundation, I will keep you posted.
They say a change is as good as a holiday...
We're going from this...
To this...
Talk about a drastic change of scenery!
What Happens When I Can't Watch Hockey?
OK So on Tuesday I sat down at my laptop and logged into hockeystreams.com to sit back and watch the Pens take on the Rangers. Our weather here Downunder has been somewhat... wet! So along with the massive downpour, lightening, thunder, and hockeystreams.com not wanting to load and let me watch the game, I resorted to the only logical thing... drawing. Not only that I had no desire to have my laptop fried from the power surges!
Also no surprise it's another one of Kris Letang!

Hockey Related
OK so here's the scoop... Hubby and I are moving to the USA, quite possibly right before Christmas. Ugh! Great timing I know. If the job in Denver comes through within this time, we will head straight there, if not we will be in Huntsville Alabama for the festive season with family. Either way I'm in the USA, it will be cold..... possibly snowing , I'll have access to ALL the ice hockey games and be able to go and watch them LIVE!, and embarking on a whole new adventure, I CAN'T WAIT! I love my sunburnt country, but I'm so over 45C heat!
I have finished a special drawing for my favourite Penguin player, and will soon send it off to him, but sorry to disappoint, I won't be posting it on my pages as it's of a personal nature. Just rest assured it looks good and I'm hoping he likes it.
But I have done some drawings for my next kids book, which is hockey related. The story isn't quite finished but some of the drawings are. They are only the 1st drafts and will more than likely change considerably before the story is published.

Drawing Sent
I finally got around to sending the Malkin drawing to the MLF. It's taken a while to get to this stage as life events have been getting in the way. Struggling with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and the possibility of a huge move to the USA haven't made things any easier. However, I am doing better and we will find out in the next few weeks whether Denver will be our new home.
I am working on a Letang drawing at the moment, simply because I need to draw my favourite Penguin, to keep myself sane. I will post a photo of it when it's complete. The Pens are dominating the Pre-season games at the moment and are 4 for 4. GO PENS lets make it a clean sweep.

Distracted!
Wow time flies! Yeah.... I know.... no new drawings as yet, well that is about to change tonight. I AM going to get back into it. I've had a lot of family and health issues plaguing my home lately so I'm sorry for the lack of art. I am also studying photography as well, so I have assignments deadlines too... life is busy! Thanks for all of you who have contacted me via facebook and given me the push I needed to get back to my drawing table. Thank you for supporting me and in turn supporting the Pens.
I am sending my 'Malkin' drawing off to the foundation this week, and I'll be drawing and sending the Letang picture sometime soon. I have decided to try and send a drawing to the foundation on a regular basis, maybe one every three months. This will hopefully give them enough for the online auctions and the major auctions at gala events throughout the season.
People often ask me why I support the Mario Lemeuix Foundation. Well it's quite simple. I come from a family that has faced more than its fair share of cancer. My grandfather Frank passed away from prostate cancer, my Cousin Scott has survived cancer and a brain tumor, and 3 women in my family, including my mother, have fought and won the battle against breast cancer. So for me, it's my way of giving back, to help those who need it most.

Bug Begone!
WooHoo! The bug that slapped the skittles out of me has finally departed *happy dance*. I will get back into the drawing shortly, once I pry myself away from my laptop long enough! I have become engrossed in my writing at the moment so the drawing has sat there neglected. But fear not, there will be more soon.
AND THE WINNER IS!!!!!

Minor Hiccup
Minor hiccup in drawing at the moment. I have a head cold from hell! So while the thought is there of drawing and posting new pics for all to see, it is extremely difficult to do so when your body is trying to expel your lungs through your teeth! Also when I'm feeling like this the mojo just isn't there and the standard of work just isn't up to scratch, so best to let it be. Please keep voting and I'll keep you updated on that project as we go along. So back to bed for me with tissues, and Penguin in hand, and I'll see you all in a week or so.

The 1st Auction Drawing
So I made an executive decision this morning. Seeing as though it's one of my favourite pictures taken by Jim McIsaac, and the first Pittsburgh Penguin drawing I ever did, I thought it fitting that it should go off to auction. I finished it a little while ago and I think it turned out better than the first one I did. I have an idea as to which other drawing is going, either a Sidney Crosby or Kris Letang, voting is deadlocked so I might just go with my favourite Pen!

Happy Birthday Sidney Crosby
Geno in the Lead
I had a feeling this drawing would be a popular one. Evgeni Malkin 002, was the first drawing I did of a Pens player. I know voting is still open, however I think this one will be going on a journey to the Mario Lemieux Foundation, and then grace some lucky auction winners wall. Starting on this drawing tomorrow, I want to get one out the way before the weekend comes to a close.

Let's Welcome Mario 'The Master' Lemieux to the Blog
Mario Lemieux has joined my family. My drawing family that is. I thought it was time to draw 'The Master', and give the team it's much needed owner. Let's face it, if it wasn't for Mario, the Pittsburgh Penguins would probably be obsolete today.
Hoping to get more drawings done this weekend, though I have some things around the house to get done first. I'm itching to do another Kris Letang drawing, but I may have to start on my auction pictures.
SCORE!!! Artist 1-Scanner 0.
Got around to having it out with my scanner today, Zen moment, but no need for the hammer yet, the threat of using it was enough for it to comply! So go check out the player pages to the right to see the drawings. I must admit they look sooooo much better scanned. Here's a taster, my favourite drawings, Tanger, of course. I have a stack of photos to go through and choose my next drawing, the more I look, the more I find. There is no shortage of material that's for sure. I'm thinking it's time to do one of Mario Lemieux.

Huge Thanks
Before I forget... which is highly possible as I have a memory like a sieve. I must send out a HUGE THANK YOU to a wonderful photographer, Jim McIsaac. Jim works with Getty Images and takes some of the most interesting ice hockey pictures I have ever seen. All my drawings that have a shadow cast on the ice are drawn from Jim's photos. Thanks Jim.
